1 Kings 19:19-21 “19 So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was ploughing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him. 20 Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah. “Let me kiss my father and mother goodbye,” he said, “and then I will come with you.” “Go back,” Elijah replied. “What have I done to you?” 21 So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He burned the ploughing equipment to cook the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow Elijah and became his servant.” Accepting the call of God must precede our desire for power. It is only through accepting the call that God will honour Himself by giving us the promise and power. Elisha did accept the call of God from Elijah and ministered to Elijah before obtaining the power later. This also makes us to understand that, though the anointing is free, it comes with a price which we ought to pay. Without us willing to pay the price the anointing cannot come. When the Lord Jesus Christ left this world, His disciples dedicated their lives into studying the word, prayer and communion. This was one of the keys that made them to obtain the power. “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them Acts 2: 1-4.” From this, it clears that obedience to the call and obeying the Lord is the key. Let us endeavour to obey the Lord in all and we will do much.
